Restorative Dentistry
Older patients are more likely to need restorative dentistry as the teeth become worn down over time. Restorations such as fillings and crowns help keep existing teeth functional while preventing further damage. Fillings are necessary to repair the damage left behind by small cavities while crowns cover an entire tooth that has been exposed to significant decay, trauma, or wear and tear. Sometimes the interior structures of teeth require repair through root canal treatment. When the inner chamber of a tooth is exposed to oral bacteria, it can produce pain if the nerves and cellular material become infected and inflamed. To remedy an infected root canal, our team will clean away the infection inside the tooth and seal the area with a special rubber-like compound.
Periodontal Therapy
Gum disease is estimated to affect about 80% of the adult population and is the primary cause of permanent tooth loss. Periodontal therapy consists of treating infected and irritated gum tissue by removing tartar deposits below the gum line that accumulate along a tooth’s roots. These deep professional cleanings also help manage the advancement of chronic periodontal disease. Seniors are susceptible to gum disease for a number of reasons including the use of certain medications and the onset of medical conditions such as diabetes.
Full and Partial Dentures
When teeth are lost and cannot be replaced by a bridge or dental implant, dentures are often necessary to reestablish a patient’s ability to eat food easily. Full dentures replace an entire set of teeth while partial dentures replace a series of missing teeth throughout the mouth. Both types of dentures are made from life-like materials that closely resemble the appearance of gums and teeth. For patients who need more retention and are candidates for implants, we offer implant dentures.
